Japan Scholarship Program at University of Sydney

Beasiswa ADB (Asian Development Bank) - Japan Scholarship Program was established with financing from the Government of Japan to provide an opportunity for well qualified citizens of the Bank’s Developing Member Countries (DMCs) to undertake postgraduate studies which will assist the economic and social development of their countries at University of Sydney Australia.
Each scholarship covers full tuition fees, an allowance for books and instructional materials, a monthly living allowance, medical insurance and travel expenses. For scholars engaged in research, a special grant may be applied to assist in field work and thesis preparation. In special circumstances, computer literacy, preparatory language and other similar courses may be covered under the scholarship.

Selection criteria for ADB - Japan Scholarship:
- Applicants with less than two years of work experience will not be selected.
- Preference to women candidates.
- Preference to applicants with lesser financial capacity.
- The Program will, in principle, not support applicants who have previously studied abroad.
- The Program will, in principle, not support applicants who are pursuing a second master’s degree or a second doctorate degree.
- Candidates who are applying in a participating academic institution in their own country may not be selected.
- Diversification of nationality in the overall Program as well as at each participating academic institution will be considered.

The scholarship period is one year. An appropriate extension for the second or third year of study is conditional on the scholar’s maintaining a satisfactory level of performance determined by the University of Sydney and following approval by the ADB. Competition for an ADB-JSP scholarship is extremely strong. Only candidates who receive an unconditional offer of admission will be considered for the ADB-JSP scholarship.

A E Ringwood Scholarships for PhD Research in Earth Sciences. The A.E. Ringwood Scholarships are designed to attract students of high calibre to pursue PhD research in Earth Sciences.

The scholarship provides a stipend of $26,923 per year for the duration of the course (3 years, with a possible 6 month extension), paid in fortnightly instalments. • Benefits are the waiver of full tuition fees for the normal duration of the program, subject to satisfactory performance.
• A scholarship recipient completing a three year degree program who is offered a further year in the Honours Program may apply for an extension of the scholarship to cover that year.
• Scholarships are available only for the first four years of a double degree.

For students seeking scholarships for study commencing in 2010, a separate application process for scholarships will be required. This includes for applications submitted through the South Australian Tertiary Admissions Centre (SATAC).

AOASI Scholarship Conditions

Eligibility conditions

1. Scholarships will be awarded strictly on academic merit and only actual results can be used. Forecast results are not accepted for scholarship selection. Only complete applications will be considered, and only applicants who have met the University’s minimum English language requirement for direct entry to their intended program of study at the scholarship application deadline will be eligible for consideration. For Australian Year 12 students the basic TER will be used. Bonus points will not be counted.
2. The University reserves the right to vary the awards, or not to offer scholarships if the candidates have not achieved the level of academic achievement to merit the awards.
3. Applicants from education systems accepted by the University of Adelaide for direct entry to the first year of degree studies must apply before commencement of University studies whether in their home country or Australia. Those who have commenced tertiary studies at the time of application will not be eligible.
4. Applicants from education systems where one year of degree studies in their home countries is required for admission to the University of Adelaide first year degree studies must apply before commencement of their second year of studies. Those who have commenced second year studies at the time of application will not be eligible.
5. A scholarship may not be awarded to anyone already holding another scholarship funded by the University of Adelaide.
6. Citizens and Permanent Residents of Australia, and citizens of New Zealand are ineligible for any of the above scholarships.
7. Candidates who have applied for Australian permanent resident status are ineligible to apply.

Enrolment Conditions

1. Scholarship holders must commence study at The University of Adelaide in 2010. By negotiation, an applicant offered a scholarship scheduled to commence in Semester I, 2010 may defer until Semester II, 2010 if there is a Semester II commencement of their chosen program of study. If the applicant is not able to commence in Semester II the scholarship offer will lapse and will not be available to the applicant in 2011.
2. Candidates are required to enrol in The University of Adelaide as ‘international students’ and must maintain ‘international student’ status for the duration of their enrolment in the University. The scholarship will be terminated if a student changes their residency status.
3. Scholarship holders are expected to enrol in a full time load. A scholarship holder who is considering reducing his/her enrolment load must first consult with staff in the International Student Centre. International students are expected to complete their programs within the duration specified on their visa. The University may only extend the duration of study under compassionate or compelling circumstances.
4. Undergraduate scholarships are available for up to four years, subject to satisfactory progress. The University reserves the right to terminate scholarships of students who do not maintain satisfactory progress. Satisfactory progress is defined as the achievement of a GPA (Grade Point Average) of 5 (out of 7).
5. Where a student fails, or withdraws from courses in a given semester (or equivalent teaching period) such that the semester GPA (Grade Point Average) is less than 5.0 in two consecutive semesters, the student will be deemed to have failed to maintain satisfactory academic progress and the scholarship will be terminated unless the University is satisfied that exceptional circumstances exist.
6. If a student faces exceptional circumstances requiring him or her to return home, he/she may apply for a one year deferment of enrolment without loss of scholarship, provided this is approved under the student visa requirements.
7. In order to make a case for exceptional circumstances, a student will need to provide a detailed statement and independent supporting documentation e.g. a doctor’s certificate etc.
8. If a scholarship holder enrols in more than the standard load of 24 units per year, or in courses which increase the tuition fee beyond what is indicated in the scholarship offer letter, or enrols in courses at another institution, he or she shall be responsible for the payment of the additional tuition fees.
9. Students who complete a three-year degree may apply for an additional year, in an Honours program, but extension of the scholarship for the fourth year is subject to the decision of the relevant faculty.
10. The scholarships cover the amount of tuition fee indicated in the scholarship award letter for up to four years of study at the University of Adelaide. The scholarships do not cover the costs of visas, Overseas Student Health Cover, travel, accommodation, living expenses, books and study materials or any other expenses associated with living in Adelaide or study at the University of Adelaide.

University of Sydney Scholarships for International School Leavers Applying through the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC)

University of Sydney Scholarships for School Leavers applying for admission through the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) are awarded annually in January on a combination of school examination results, UAI and other achievements, (leadership, creativity, self-motivation, communication skills etc).

Suitability will be considered based on the application submitted. When the UAI scores are released, each applicants UAI will be checked to see it meets the minimum level, the student may then be offered a scholarship. Please note that students who wish to study at Sydney College of the Arts or the Sydney Conservatorium of Music must achieve a UAI of at least 90 and be amongst the top 5% of applicants, assessed by portfolio or performance.

International and NZ students applying for admission through the UAC are also eligible to apply.

Students taking the IB (International Baccalaureate) in Australia (not off-shore) or other alternatives to the HSC will be assessed on the basis of a UAI equivalent. This is available from the UAC or the University Admissions Office (Tel: +61 2 9351 4117)

There are two levels of University of Sydney Scholarships (Entry & Merit scholarships). Your application will automatically be considered for both.

• University of Sydney Merit Scholarship – $5000 for a maximum of 5 years (must maintain an excellent academic record throughout the tenure of the scholarship)
• University of Sydney Entry Scholarship – $5000 for one year only

Griffith University International Postgraduate Research 2009, Australia:

The GUIPRS is designed to attract and support highly ranked international applicants during the University’s annual postgraduate research scholarship round. The scheme extends the provision of tuition fees scholarships beyond the University’s allocated International Postgraduate Research Scholarships (IPRS).

The GUIPRS covers tuition fees for the student and overseas student health cover (OSHC) for the student and ependant(s). No other expenses are paid by this scheme, but award recipients may seek additional funding from alternative sources.

Eligibility
The IPRS is available to international students only. Applicants must have completed, or expect to complete, four years of higher education studies at a very high level and be intending to enrol full-time in an approved doctoral or research masters program.

Part-time awards may be offered to students who, for social or medical reasons, are unable to study full-time.

Duration
The IPRS may be held for up to two years for a research masters program and up to three years for a doctoral program. A six month extension may be granted to doctoral students in certain circumstances.

Description : S e x Determination in Reptiles

We are seeking postgraduate research students to work on various questions to do with s e x determination in reptiles and amphibians.

Projects of interest will draw upon a combination one or more of incubation experiments and s e x ratio analysis; population genetics; cross-species chromosome painting; s e x chromosome gene mapping using our Pogona vitticeps BAC library; subtractive hybridization; gene expression analysis; transcriptomics; next generation sequencing and bioinformatics.

The particular combination of techniques and approaches used will depend upon the questions addressed and the interests and expertise of the candidate.

Our particular interests are in

• seeking evidence of an underlying genetic predisposition for reptiles with TSD to be one s e x or the other and determining the consequences of gene-temperature interactions for s e x determination in reptiles.
• interactions between the thermal regime within natural nests and s e x determination in the context of predicting responses to climate change.
• seeking insight to evolutionary transitions between modes of s e x determination (male heterogamety XX/XY, female heterogamety ZZ/ZW, and TSD).
• expression of s e x genes under hormonal and temperature induced s e x reversal.
• Identification and characterization of universal s e x-specific molecular markers in snakes and amphibians.
• Genome organization and evolution in reptiles by generating a gene-dense physical map for Pogona vitticeps.

The United States Studies Centre at the University of Sydney invites applications for its 2010-2011 class of Postdoctoral Fellows.

The fellowship program, directed by Professor Margaret Levi of the United States Studies Centre and the University of Washington, is designed to bring to Sydney a cohort of the world’s rising scholarly leaders working on the United States in the humanities, social sciences and related professional disciplines.

The Centre will award up to six Fellowships for a 12-month period commencing on 1 September 2010. Fellowships are open to scholars who have a PhD awarded no earlier than 1 January 2003 as well as doctoral students who will be awarded their PhDs by the end of 2010.

Fellows are expected to be in residence and to complete a major research project as well as to engage with students and scholars in Sydney and around Australia during the fellowship period. Salaries commence from AU $82,112 and will be commensurate with experience and current employment.

Sampoerna Foundation is a professional philanthropy organization and a service provider for Corporate Social Responsibility with a commitment to education. It was established in 2001 in response to the urgent need to improve the quality of education in Indonesia.

Sampoerna Foundation Overseas MBA Scholarship

The Sampoerna Foundation Overseas MBA Scholarship is a means to groom Indonesia’s future business leaders.

Sampoerna Foundation provides one (1) scholarship to pursue a Master’s of Business Administration degree at leading university overseas. Upon completing the program, the scholarship recipient is required to return to Indonesia and endeavor to transfer his/ her knowledge to his/ her fellow citizens.

I. Basic Eligibility
Applicant must satisfy ALL of the following conditions:

1. Indonesian citizen who is under 35 years of age when lodging the application.
2. Hold a local Bachelor’s degree from any discipline with a minimum Grade Point Average of 3.00 (on a 4.00 scale).
3. Have a minimum of 2 year full-time professional work experience after the completion of the undergraduate degree.
4. Currently did not enroll in graduate or post-graduate program, or obtained a Master’s degree or equivalent.
5. Did not graduate from an overseas tertiary institution, unless was on a full scholarship.
6. Do not receive other equivalent award or scholarship offering similar or other benefits at the time of the award.
7. Has applied to the university(ies) that are recommended by Sampoerna Foundation for the academic year 2010/2011 by the closing date of this scholarship application (February 1, 2010).
8. Submit the result of TOEFL/ IELTS and GMAT with the minimum score as required by the chosen university.
9. Have motivation to return to Indonesia and work in Indonesia upon completion of the MBA program.

II. Further Requirements
Applicant also must:

1. Demonstrate leadership potential and interest in and commitment to community and national development.
2. Meet the requirements for obtaining a student visa of the designated country upon acceptance of the scholarship.
3. Comply with the application of the scholarship rules and regulations as stipulated by Sampoerna Foundation, partner institution for each respective program, and the university.

III. Nature of award

1. The scholarship covers the following:
   • GMAT and TOEFL/ IELTS reimbursement, one time only, based on original invoice;
   • University application fee, for up to 2 (two) universities;
   • Student visa application fee;
   • Return airfares from Jakarta to the place of study;
   • Tuition fees, for the duration of study;
   • Living allowance, to support living costs during period of study;
   • Literature allowance, to purchase textbooks required for study.
2. The scholarship is intended for full-time/ regular class study only.
3. Scholarship recipient is not permitted to undertake any form of employment at any time during the course of study.

IV. Duration of Award

1. The scholarship is provided for a maximum of 2 (two) years, or otherwise as stated by the university.
2. The scholarship recipient is obliged to complete his/ her study within 2 (two) years. Failure to complete the study within this timeframe will result in a penalty imposed whereby the scholarship recipient must return 50% of the total amount of scholarship fund already disbursed.
3. Continuation of scholarship is subject to the scholar’s satisfactory academic and non-academic progress.

V. Employment
There is no obligation for the scholarship recipient or Sampoerna Foundation to engage in any form of future employment.
Sampoerna Foundation does not oblige scholarship recipient to work for Sampoerna Foundation and its affiliates or
supporting organizations.
However, upon completion of study, the scholarship recipient is required to return and work in Indonesia for 5 (five)
consecutive years to contribute the skills and knowledge gained from the MBA study for the development of the country.

Description

UTS: Business recognises the importance of international exchange in a student’s academic life. The Faculty is committed in supporting students who wish to go on exchange in order to gain an international perspective on global business methods and practices.

UTS: Business may offer up to ten (10) Outbound Exchange Scholarships per semester, to qualified students enrolled in a Business degree. Each scholarship is tenable for one semester, to the value of $500.00 each. It cannot be deferred or transferred to another semester.

Eligibility

>Students who are enrolled in a Business undergraduate or postgraduate degree approved to go on exchange by UTS: Business and UTS: International;

>Students must be enrolled at UTS for a minimum of 24 credit points for credit transfer from the host institution to UTS.

>Students attending an exchange program for a full year may only apply for an exchange scholarship once;

>Students must not be in receipt of any other scholarship, cadetship or bursary. This excludes the Global Exchange Scholarship offered by UTS: International, which students may receive simultaneously.

>Students must be able to speak and present upon their return about their experience overseas when required by UTS: Business and/or UTS: International.

Selection criteria

1. Top ranked students with a minimum WAM of 65 from among the Faculty scholarship applicants;
2. Personal statement addressing the following (800 – 1,000 words):

University of Technology, Sydney – MBA Scholarship for Outstanding International Students (Commencing)

Course area/ Division: BUS.Faculty of Business

The Faculty of Business offers two scholarships each academic year (one per semester) for MBA by Coursework commencing international students. Scholarships will be awarded solely on the basis of academic merit. If no applicant satisfies the award conditions then the scholarship will not be awarded.

The scheme does not provide for living allowances, travel or medical costs. The scholarship will be awarded through a reduction of tuition fees. Scholarships will be awarded to the applicant who is the highest achiever and no correspondence will be entered into.

Eligibility

Candidates must:

1. have applied for admission to the UTS MBA award, course code C04018;
2. be categorised by UTS as an international student; and
3. have reached a level of achievement across all subjects in their undergraduate qualification used as a basis for admission to the MBA which is equivalent to/or above an academic achievement of Distinction average (75%) (all subjects studied will be counted).

Commonwealth Scholarships Program 2010

Commonwealth Scholarships Program 2010

The Commonwealth Scholarships Program has been revised for 2010 where it will offer scholarships for Indigenous students and those students who were in receipt of a Commonwealth Scholarship in 2009.

Students who currently receive a Commonwealth Education Costs Scholarship (CECS) or a Commonwealth Accommodation Scholarship (CAS), and who maintain their eligibility, will continue to receive their Commonwealth Scholarship payments until their scholarship entitlement has been consumed.

The proposed new Student Start-up Scholarship and the proposed new Relocation Scholarship Legislation to introduce these new scholarships has not been approved by the Parliament. The Government has indicated that it intends to bring its legislation back to the Parliament early in 2010. Following the passage of legislation, these scholarships will be administered by Centrelink.

Changes to Youth Allowance Legislation to introduce the Government’s proposed changes to Youth Allowance has not been approved by the Parliament. This means current rules for Youth Allowance, Austudy and ABSTUDY continue to apply. The Government has indicated that it intends to bring its legislation back to the Parliament early in 2010.

Students who may be considering taking a gap year before going to university should be aware that the current arrangements would change if the Government’s legislation is approved.
